Long before five-star hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants, Hong Kong\u2019s Lady Ivy Wu and husband Sir Gordon happened upon Niseko\u2019s quaint villages in the mid-1990s.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After skiing at several resorts across Hokkaido, it was Niseko that captured their hearts. They\u2019ve been coming back here ever since, opening boutique hotel Chalet Ivy on Hirafu\u2019s main street (Hirafu Zaka) in order to further to Niseko\u2019s modern development.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a fitting sentiment given Sir Gordon\u2019s powerhouse contributions to infrastructure development across Asia.<\/p>\n

Dubbed \u201cthe man who turned the lights on\u201d by former Philippine president Fidel Ramos, Sir Gordon\u2019s company Hopewell Holdings led the charge as China opened its doors to the world in the 1970s and 80s, quickly becoming the largest single investor in China through infrastructure creation.<\/p>\n

Lady Ivy was heavily involved in the construction and design of opulent Chalet Ivy, incorporating ideas she had garnered from hotels across the world. Chalet Ivy paved the foundations for Ivy Hospitality\u2019s ongoing success, providing leadership and guidance to the burgeoning powder capital and paving the way for future projects.<\/p>\n

The leadership that Lady Ivy has shown to Hong Kong is also seen in her many civic activities and community duties. Both her and husband Sir Gordon Wu have been supporters of many worthy causes over the years, playing active roles in numerous charitable organisations such as the Hong Kong Red Cross and the Red Cross China.<\/p>\n

While in Niseko, Lady Ivy has been a Hokkaido Smile Ambassador since 2015, and more recently conceived and built luxury Chalet Ivy Jozankei<\/p>\n

Lady Ivy\u2019s pioneering work in Hong Kong and greater Asia is perfect illustration of why discovery and innovation are critical to the future of Niseko. Lady Ivy Wu\u2019s latest project \u2013 Kaba Niseko \u2013 embodies this spirit of creative excellence and progression, both by way of it\u2019s unique Hanazono Weiss location, and the exclusivity of the luxury onsen village master plan.<\/p>\n

A philanthropist and a longtime supporter of education, medicine, healthcare and animal causes, Sir Gordon and Lady Ivy formed the Wu Charitable Foundation. <\/em>The dining hall of Princeton University\u2019s Butler residential college, built in 1983, is named for Wu. In 1995, Wu pledged a gift of US$100 million to Princeton, US$40 million of that earmarked for graduate fellowships.<\/p>\n
